After the Jags (4-4, 0-2 Coast) had scoring opportunities in the 7th inning in both games, the Hawks' (9-4, 2-0) defense shut down the Jags to win the doubleheader.
In the first game, the Jags scored the first run in the third inning, but the momentum shifted to the Hawks after Alaina Valdez was drilled by a line drive, taking her out of the game. Chelsea Rayment had to pitch the rest of the doubleheader.
Top of the 7th inning in the first game, the Jags were behind 4-7. Kiya Sandoval started the inning with a double over the left fielder's head. Malia Venegas' hit went between short and third. Jade Henry then hits the ball to left field. Bases loaded with one out, Deja Jimenez hits a flyball to the left fielder, who then threw Sandoval out at home for a double play to end the game.
Top of the 6th inning in the second game, the Jags scored on Henry's sacrifice fly, and Venegas ran home on a wild pitch to tie the score 2-2. The Hawks answered with three more runs to lead 2-5.
In the 7th inning, Karissa Smith hit a line drive double to left field. Melissa Felix hit the ball to shortstop, and Smith held at second. With runners on 1st and 2nd, the Jags could not bring any runs across home plate.
Up next, on Feb. 16, the Jags play home against Cabrillo at 3 pm, followed by a rescheduled game on 2/18 against Folsom Lake at 1 pm.
