In a dominant performance, the San José City College Jaguars won the Northern California Bowl against the Siskiyous Eagles, scoring 59-27. The game in Weed, Calif., was the Jaguars' first appearance in a bowl game since their 2009 season.
The Jaguars displayed impressive offensive firepower from the opening kickoff, setting the tone with a quick touchdown drive led by quarterback Cedeno Chavez. Chavez connected with Riley Anderson on a 43-yard pass to put the Jaguars up 14-0 early in the first quarter. The San Jose offense continued to roll as running back Jesse R. Lajes broke free for an 80-yard touchdown run to extend the lead to 29-0 in the second quarter.
The Jaguars' defense also significantly impacted the game, with Axel Garcia returning a fumble 39 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. This defensive score and a strong performance from the San José special teams unit helped the Jaguars build a commanding lead heading into halftime.
Despite a brief scoring drive by Siskiyous in the second quarter, the Jaguars maintained control of the game throughout the second half. Cedeno Chavez continued to lead the offense with precision passing, including a 5-yard touchdown pass to Jamir Shephard and an 88-yard bomb to Jacquez Walker in the fourth quarter.
The San José defense held strong against a late surge from Siskiyous, with key stops and turnovers preventing the Eagles from mounting a comeback. Ultimately, the Jaguars' balanced offensive attack, stout defense, and solid special teams play proved too much for Siskiyous to overcome.
This victory in the Northern California Bowl marked a successful end to the season for San José City College, capping off an impressive campaign for the Jaguars. With a record of 1-0 in the postseason, the team demonstrated their resilience, determination, and skill on the field. As they celebrate this hard-fought win, the Jaguars can look back on their performance with pride and anticipation for future success on the gridiron.
