SJCC Men’s and Women’s Basketball have an Outstanding Season
Continuing their impressive streak, the San José City College men's and women's basketball teams once again made it to the playoffs. Each team marked its second consecutive appearance in the CCCAA NorCal Regional Playoffs.
Their success is a testament to their consistent performance and growing strength in the league.
The Lady Jaguars punched their ticket and claimed the South Coast Conference title by beating Hartnell College on Feb. 23 (50-41) at Percy Carr Gym.
The Jags maintained their undefeated conference record, with Hartnell finishing second. The Lady Jags posted an overall season record of 25-3, ranking no. 19 out of the state's top 25 community college basketball squads.
After beating Napa Valley (83-45) at home in the first round for the NorCal Regional Playoffs, the Lady Jags lost on the road to Cosumnes River Collete.
The men were resilient in a tough South Coast conference led by no. 1 West Valley College and no. 6 Cabrillo College in second place. The no. 12 Jags finished third but sealed their playoff slot by beating Hartnell College on Feb. 23 (92-63) at Percy Carr Gym.
After securing a first-round bye, the men's team displayed their prowess by defeating West Hills Lemoore at home in the second round (78-72).
However, their journey was cut short in the third round when they lost (68-59) at home to Yuba College. Despite this, their performance was commendable, and West Valley College ultimately emerged as the CCCAA Champions.
Both Jaguar basketball teams had extraordinary seasons, which bodes well for the future of SJCC's program.
