The Jags are Coast-South Conference Champions after beating the Rams 84-68
Before the game, the Jags (23-4, 10-1 Coast-South) knew they would secure the conference champions title if they beat the Gavilan Rams (18-9, 7-4). And it was their last home game of the regular season as they celebrated sophomore night.
Mison Coilton scored a season-high of 26 points with five rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Gavin Wilburn added 23 points, including three 3's with five rebounds, four assists, and three steals to lead the Jags to become Coast-South Conference Champions.
The Rams started the game with a 10-3 lead within the first four minutes, but after three 3's in a row, the Jags tied the game 12-12. The Jags held the lead 37-30 at the end of the half.
At the start of the second half, the Rams put pressure on the Jags and brought the lead down to 1 at 15:23. Coilton, with 11 points, and Wilburn, with 8 points, were the two main scorers who helped hold the lead for the Jags. With 9 minutes remaining, the Jags went on an 11-2 run that shifted the momentum to win the game later.
In the second half, Coilton scored 18 of his 26 points, and Wilburn scored 17 of his 23 points.
Nikola Milojevic and Jacob Harper scored 8 points each, Jerry Jackson and Jurrien Sparks scored 6 points each, and Jordan Gill scored 7 points.
After joining four years ago, Head Coach Devin Aye accomplishes his first conference win with San José City College.
The Jags will face Hartnell for their last away game of the season on Feb. 17 before they prepare for the playoffs.
