The San José City College Jaguars women’s basketball squad opened their season with a convincing 103-70 victory over the Las Positas Hawks at Percy Carr Gym.

The Hawks started the game strong, scoring 18 points in the first quarter. However, the Jaguars quickly responded with 27 points of their own, taking an early lead. The Hawks continued to struggle in the second quarter, only scoring 17 points, while the Jaguars added 13 more to their tally.
The third quarter was where the Jaguars took control of the game, scoring an impressive 36 points, while the Hawks could only manage 18. This offensive onslaught from the Jaguars allowed them to extend their lead and put the game out of reach for the Hawks. The fourth quarter saw a similar story, with the Jaguars adding another 27 points to their total while the Hawks scored 17.
For the Las Positas Hawks, Rayna Manu was the standout performer. She played for 40 minutes and scored an impressive 29 points, making 8 of her 23 field goal attempts. She also connected on 3 of her 11 three-point attempts and made 10 15 free throws. Joyce Mulumba also had a solid game, contributing 5 points and an impressive 21 rebounds.
The Jaguars had a more balanced scoring effort. Tatiana Collazo led the team with 21 points, making 7 of her 19 field goal attempts. She also made 2 of her seven three-point attempts and connected on 5 of her six free throws. Zara Dumatol and Danna Martinez also had strong performances, with Dumatol scoring 14 points and Martinez adding 15 points and an impressive 14 rebounds.
Overall, the Jaguars dominated the game with their strong offensive performance. They shot 41.7 percent from the field, compared to the Hawks' 32.9 percent. Additionally, the Jaguars had a strong showing at the free-throw line, making 76 percent of their attempts.
Both teams played hard throughout the game, but the Jaguars' offensive firepower and strong shooting percentages ultimately proved the difference. The win improved the Jaguars' record to 1-2, while the Hawks fell to 0-2.
