Jaguars keep rolling in 30-6 win over West Hills

The San José City College Jaguars kept up their conference-leading record-breaking pace at home on Saturday with a convincing 30-6 win over the West Hills Coalinga Falcons. Not since 2009 have the Jaguars (7-1) won seven games in a season. They also achieved their first seven-game winning streak since 1995, when the CCCAA began archiving statistics. 

Coming off a bye week, SJCC returned to Jaguar Stadium, starting the game strong, scoring a touchdown on their opening drive. Running back Jesse R. Lajes ran for a 4-yard touchdown, and Owen Lagos made the extra point to give the Jaguars a 7-0 lead. The drive consisted of 7 plays and covered 37 yards in 3 minutes and 23 seconds. 

 In the second quarter, the Jaguars extended their lead with a touchdown pass from quarterback Trent Cousens to wide receiver Zion Owens. The 18-yard pass was followed by a successful extra point by Matt Morton, bringing the score to 14-0 in favor of the Jaguars. The drive lasted three plays and covered 60 yards in 1 minute and 37 seconds. 

 Later in the second quarter, the Jaguars added to their lead with a 42-yard field goal by Lagos. The drive consisted of 10 plays and covered 55 yards in 4 minutes and 55 seconds, giving the Jaguars a 17-0 lead heading into halftime. 

SECOND HALF ACTION

In the third quarter, the Jaguars continued to dominate with a touchdown pass from Cousens to Jordan B. Mayfield. However, the 2-point conversion attempt failed. The drive lasted 11 plays and covered 51 yards in 6 minutes and 31 seconds, extending the Jaguars' lead to 23-0. 

 The Falcons finally got on the scoreboard in the third quarter with a 9-yard touchdown run by Jett Garcia. However, the extra point attempt was unsuccessful, making the score 23-6 in favor of the Jaguars. The drive consisted of 8 plays and covered 62 yards in 5 minutes and 5 seconds. 

 In the fourth quarter, the Jaguars sealed their victory with an 8-yard interception return for a touchdown by Yasir Talib-Harrison. Lagos kicked the extra point, bringing the final score to 30-6 in favor of the Jaguars.

 In terms of statistics, the Jaguars had the advantage in several categories. They had 21 first downs compared to the Falcons' 14. The Jaguars also had a higher third-down efficiency, converting 45 percent of their attempts compared to the Falcons' 35 percent.  

The Jaguars had a total offensive yardage of 317, while the Falcons had 218. The Jaguars had a higher net passing yardage with 207, compared to the Falcons' 165. The rushing game was also dominated by the Jaguars, with a net yardage of 110 compared to the Falcons' 53. 

 The Jaguars' defense was also impressive, recording four sacks for a loss of 21 yards and intercepting the ball three times for a total of 29 yards. The Falcons, on the other hand, did not record any sacks or interceptions. 

 Overall, the Jags had a dominant game showcasing their offensive and defensive prowess. With this win, the Jaguars improved their conference record to 4-0 and their overall record to 7-1, solidifying their first-place position in the American–Golden Coast Conference.
