The Jags started the weekend with their first two losses of the season to No. 2-ranked Sierra.
In the first game, the Jags lost 1-0 in a pitchers' battle. Alaina Valdez had four strikeouts, two walks, and one earned run. Valdez was one of the two hits for the Jags other than Jade Henry's double in the first inning.
"Defensively, we played well," said head coach Deborah Huntze-Rooney. "Enough to keep us in the game, but being down by one run, we had to get our offense going. It clearly wasn't there. I don't know if it was just the mindset of our players, but we need to be in more of an attack mode and we weren't. 1-0 is a hard loss."
The second game was called early after only five innings as the Jags went down 8-0. There were no hits and only one walk.
"We asked to make adjustments as hitters, but it just didn't seem to transition," said Coach Huntze-Rooney. "It was more, I think of a mental side of hitting that got in our way instead of trusting in their past successes and their abilities. But we will be alright. Tomorrow is a new day."
The Jags are 2-2 in the season and play against Redwoods and Reedley on Saturday, Feb. 11, to finish the weekend.
